When you wake up tomorrow, be thankful you're waking up in a nice warm bed, because someone else is waking up freezing under a bridge. Appreciate the roof over your head, because someone is spending their thanksgiving in a shelter. Appreciate the food on your table, because others might not be eating or they might be trying to find every penny they have just to buy a meal. Appreciate the time with your friends & family because there are soldiers fighting for you overseas' and they might get lucky to skype with their family for just a few minutes. Sometimes you have to take a step back and realize all you have. Today I was reminded of that. & Here is why.
2 weeks ago while in North Florida, A deer decided he wanted to be brave & well sadly my car & deer collided. That bad boy demolished my front end, & therefore caused a crazy series of events, I had to stay in North Florida for a few extra days, get a rental car and drive home...well it's going on 2 1/2 weeks without my car, this may not seem like a big deal, however when you remember deductibles and car rental, those pennies add up. Well, due to that and work, I had to cancel my flight to Maine, and spend thanksgiving here away from my family for the first time EVER. Well it upset me & at that moment I honestly wanted to be a 3 year old who throws a tantrum in a middle of Toys R Us just to get my way (& quite frankly life was so much easier as a 3 year old). However, thanks to my mother & my best friend they reminded me that I have so much to be thankful for & I have to remember there are others who would give anything to have what I have.
So, Tonight I decided to take a different approach, as the season for giving kicks off, I hope you will give back as well. It's a little too late to sign up to volunteer tomorrow, however I WILL be volunteering this Christmas as I will be away from my family once again. Give back, Give thanks for those who are less fortunate. One small act of kindness goes along way.
At the end of the day, you have to remember what you have, instead of focusing on what others might have. Tomorrow, don't forget to remember...those families struggling, remember the soldiers, remember those less fortunate than you.
