Make up cheats!

Here are a few tips to make your daily make up routine a little easier!

The false eyelash look - just dab some baby powder on your eye lashes before putting on mascara & you'll have fuller looking lashes!

Secret eye lift - sweep a light pink matte pencil across the entire length of your brow bone & blend for an instant lift

Clump free- just swipe your mascara wand on a tissue before each application to avoid clumps!

Long last - to make your lipstick last longer, after applying your lipstick, place a tissue over your lips and apply powder over your lips. This will also create a matte look.

Make it pop - the key to making eye shadows pop is by using a white base. You can use a white eyeliner to cover the base of your eye & then apply eye shadow as usual!

Cat eye cheat - Place a piece of scotch tape as a stencil.

wth...no poo?

The latest craze in the beauty world is the no-poo craze. So, what is this crazy no-poo? It's a shorter term for "no shampoo"! It is simply a method for not shampooing your hair with commercial shampoo.

When the no poo trend hit, people decided to adopt the trend for numerous reasons, one was the concern for the chemicals additives such as sodium lauryl sulfate & sodium laureth sulfate. Those chemical additives caused concerns to some because they can irritate sensitive skin.

So, how does one do the no-poo "shampoo" ...it's easy & cheap...so what do you need?

No Poo shampoo
2 cups of water
8 tablespoons of baking soda
water bottle

Just throw the water & baking soda in a bottle, shake & then apply.

No Poo conditioner
1 cup of apple cider vinegar
1 cup of water
water bottle

throw water & ACV into the water bottle, shake & then apply to the ends like you would a normal conditioner.

One of the things to be prepared for when using the no-poo method is, it will not work over night, your hair will not adjust automatically. Your hair is going to need some time to adjust. You may notice your hair to be oily or dry, but if you are patient and willing to try this method your patience should pay off in about a month or so & you will have soft and bouncy hair.

If you're into the no-poo craze let me know! do you like it? or do you hate it?

Battle of the frizz.

Frizz. It's a nasty word for women everywhere. We've all dealt with it too & if you're from the south, its something you deal with on a daily basis's.

So, what causes frizz? Well, Frizzy hair is caused when moisture and natural oils are removed from the hair. There are many causes of frizzy hair, such as humidity, genetics & even what you're doing on a daily basis's can cause frizz.

Here are a few tips to help prevent frizz.

1. When shopping for frizz control products look for conditioners with protein. My all time favorite is the Matrix Keratindose. It packs a nice punch of protein needed to help frizz control, and its great for damaged hair.

2. It's tempting but try not to brush your hair after it dries. Brushing can disrupt the cuticle and cause breakage which is another reason for frizz.

3. Don't towel dry. When drying your hair grab a microfiber towel to gently press the water out of your hair.

4. Protect your hair. Heat damage can also cause frizz. So, always always use a heat protectant.

5. Apply serum. The serum will help smooth the cuticle & tame fly aways. I absolutely love Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Smoothing Serum, it helps with fly aways & leaves your hair silky smooth.

Until next time,

Best Hair care tips!

Every now and then we need a refresher on how to care for your hair, as new products make their way to the shelves & new styles are recreated. Here are a few hair care tips that never go out of style!

A healthy diet is a no brainer - the same nutrients found in healthy food are not only good for your body, they also create healthy locks.

A hot shower is lovely after a long day but, hot water can strip the protective oils in your hair that act as a natural conditioner & reduce your shine! So, aim to rinse your hair with lukewarm water.

Mend split ends with protein - when searching for conditioner that has protein or keratin. My favorite conditioner is Matrix Keratindose.

While braids & ponytails are always a do, they can cause mayhem on your hair. When the braids or ponytail are too tight it can cause hair to break off & damage your roots. So set your hair free every night! For braided styles that last months, make sure to leave your hair a little loose at the scalp and give your hair a break after 2-3 months.

For my curly haired girls using a brush should be a big no no! Curly hair is more likely to break and become dry & brittle. Gently use a pick to keep curls looking better. Conditioners with polymers can make your hair more manageable and curls look smoother. Bumble & Bumble Curl Conscious conditioner is great for your curls.

Back away from the blow dryer every now and then. Going au natural every now and then can prevent damage from heat. If you need to use your blow dryer or hot tools, it is vital you use a heat protectant. I love to use Redkin's 02 on my clients, it's a heat protectant that not only protects your hair, it helps reduce friction and frizz. Plus, the added bonus is it cuts down on drying time!

As a fish out of water, I lived in the pool every chance I got & believe it or not the best thing for my locks was not only rinsing off before I dove in, but also throwing in some leave in conditioner helped prevent more chlorine from wrecking havoc on my hair. Once you're out of the pool & hop in the shower try using a clarifying shampoo such as Paul Mitchell shampoo 2, this helps rid the hair of chlorine & even product build up.

Stay beautiful ladies & gents!
